We are very excited to bring you another natural Ethiopian coffee! These coffees have been hard to come by this year, and we’ve found a great one. The Dembi Udo washing station, located in the Guji Zone of southern Ethiopia, is a relative newcomer to the world of specialty coffee production. Abiyot, owner of Buno General Trading and manager of the washing station decided to focus their efforts on naturally processed specialty grade coffee, and this lot showcases their focus and dedication.

Grown at an altitude between 1800 and 2100 meters above sea level, The region is dominated by small family plots, and farmers deliver a mix of local improved varieties plus local landraces. These varieties are referred to collectively as ‘Ethiopian Heirloom’, which is a term used to describe many different local native Typica hybrids as well as new and improved varieties based on the old cultivars.

While the high-altitude production of this coffee comes through with a smooth body and texture, this lot features some unique flavors we don’t usually see in naturally processed coffees from Ethiopia. While we typically see dominant dark berry notes like blueberry and blackberry in natural coffees, this coffee delivers brighter cantaloupe and orange zest flavors and a rich brown sugar finish.

If you’re a fan of natural Ethiopian coffees, this lot will satisfy while bringing a little extra character to your morning ritual. Cheers!
