We’re super excited to have another harvest of this great coffee from Mayan Harvest and jefecita Rosalba Cifuentes Tovia in Chiapas, Mexico!

Mujeres, the Spanish word for ‘women’, is a great name for this offering because this coffee was grown exclusively by women producers. Collected from 168 family-owned and woman-led farms in the Bella Vista growing region of Chiapas, specific lots were selected and set aside before the coffees from the other producers in the region were collected and blended. Because these coffees are from specific lots, they are much more consistent and are able to provide a more developed acidity and a cleaner flavor than the blended coffees. The altitude, availability of fresh, clean water and unique geography of the region enable these skilled producers to offer coffees with beautiful complexity of fruit and floral notes while maintaining a nice sweetness and creamy body usually associated with more traditional coffee flavors. This great combination of attributes and consistency produces a coffee that works well in nearly any format, whether it’s a single-origin limited release, a creative blend, or a delicious espresso. This is the second year that the Women’s Group has exported coffee, and Mayan Harvest recognizes their work and helps to financially empower these women and communities through enhanced traceability and improved prices that go directly to the producers. We are honored to be involved with Rosalba and her amazing community of growers and grateful that we get to enjoy this special coffee that directly impacts those communities.

Mujeres is a blend of the Bourbon, Caturra, and Catimor varieties that are common to this region and is grown at an elevation of 1550-1650 MASL. It’s a fully washed coffee that is dried in the warm Chiapas sunshine. For this second harvest we get some really interesting flavors of chocolate cherry cola with a wonderfully creamy body reminiscent of cashew nuts.
