For those that have traveled a few steps along their coffee journey, often one of the things we encounter are Ethiopian coffees. Specifically, naturally processed (also called dry processed) Ethiopian coffees. Many of us fondly recall the first time we experienced this delightful treat, and the amazement that often follows the first sip. “This is coffee?? It tastes so much different than any coffee I’ve tasted before!”
We almost always have a natural Ethiopian coffee in our warehouse, so we decided to create a rotating single-origin concept that would allow us to showcase these coffees more often. The first coffee we’re offering as ‘Juice Box’, our name for this concept, is Guji Buku Abel from the Bukusayisa village in the Hambella district. Ethiopia’s southern highlands produce such incredible coffees because cooler temperatures slow down the cherries’ maturation process which, allowing the beans to absorb more complex sugars leading to deeper, more nuanced flavors. This region is well known as one of the most revered and popular coffee-growing areas in the world, and its relationship with coffee goes back to the beginning.
These coffees will typically represent some of the fruitiest, juiciest flavors specialty coffee is known for (hence the name). We consistently get notes of mild citrus, a medium/heavy body with deep sweetness that brings to mind ripe berries, and a nice syrupy finish. Each coffee will bring its own character to the table, making this a nice showcase of what these coffees have to offer. We hope you love these coffees as we do.
Cheers!
