Most specialty coffee enthusiasts know that coffee is a very seasonal product. We’re constantly working months in advance to make sure we have the freshest, most flavorful coffees available. Sometimes this means forecasting 6-12 months out to contract coffees for use all year long, especially for higher volume coffees like blends that aim to hit a consistent flavor profile year-round. We usually do a pretty good job estimating how much coffee we need, but inevitably things change, and we occasionally run out of a specific coffee before we expected to – a good problem to have!

When this happens, we try to find another, often similar, coffee that’s available to sample and get shipped to us quickly. For those of you familiar with our coffees, our year-round decaf from Ana Mustafá was a hit this harvest and we needed to find a replacement. Colombia is a go-to origin for solid, high-quality decaffeinated coffees, and our friends at Hacea Coffee had the perfect fit.

This coffee also comes from Pereira, in the Risaralda region, and continues to demonstrate some classic flavors we’ve come to love from the Castillo variety commonly grown in the area, but adds some of the bright, complex acidity and florality from the Colombia variety in the mix and wraps up with a clean, sweet finish.

Although we know the morning coffee ritual isn’t quite the same without the pick-me-up of that first cup of coffee, we want to make sure everyone has a chance to enjoy some amazing coffees – even without the caffeine.

Cheers!
