Colombia is a country synonymous with the cultivation and production of coffee. Ask someone about coffee, and chances are the iconic country factors into the equation somehow. There are so many different coffees that come out of Colombia, you can find just about any flavor profile you can imagine. We love exploring the coffee this amazing place has to offer, and we’re excited to bring you the next chapter of this epic saga.
As with most of our Colombian coffees, this lot was brought to us by our good friends at La Real Expedición Botánica (LaREB). From a sourcing philosophy, the work of LaREB falls right in line with our goal of transparency, quality, and direct relationships, and we are honored to have a chance to work with these amazing people. Per LaREB, “We are not just exporters; we are an inter-regional collective of cultivators, researchers, and other coffee professionals whose objective is to facilitate market access for those who, like us, don’t feel represented by the current rules of international coffee trading. This is a quality-driven group, dedicated to bringing the best out of already good coffees by focusing on diverse processing protocols.” We’ve been working with LaREB since Day 1, and we’re very proud of the work they do and the coffee they produce.
This single estate lot comes from Deisy Acevedo’s operation in the Filandia region of northern Quindio, one of Colombia’s main coffee growing regions and an important contributor to the country’s total coffee production. This lot was grown at an elevation of 1700 MASL and is fully washed. The cherries are picked over-ripe, rested in husk for 24 hours, and open dry mass fermented for 48 hours before going in the greenhouses to dry for 15 days.
This offering continues our exploration of washed Colombian coffees from the Coffee Axis region, and presents a balanced, easy-drinking experience. The cup leads with the pleasant malic acidity and light sweetness of green apple, delights with a deepening raspberry sweetness, and finishes with a hint of chocolate wafer. We hope you enjoy.
